We’re pleased to announce that Shade It Black: Death and After in Iraq was selected for Miami University’s 2012 Summer Reading Program. This summer, first year students at Miami University will receive a copy of the book to read and then discuss after the University Convocation on August 17th where author Jess Goodell is scheduled to speak.
Shade It Black was selected from a list of 50-60 potential titles by the Summer Reading Committee, which is composed of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. On selecting the book, the committee’s Co-Chair said,
“It was chosen because it’s an important book told from a perspective and voice that we don’t often hear.”
A senior at Miami University was the one to bring Shade It Black to the committee’s attention saying,
“I was on the edge about Shade It Black at first. It was powerful, and I wasn’t sure if it was powerful in the way that we need it to be. I know that it’s something that needs to be shared.”
